Our Charity Work

Our charity work in the UK

Lundbeck is committed to ‘giving’ back to our local communities, through charitable giving, both financially and by the giving of our time, as individuals and as a company.

Our charity committee

Within Lundbeck UK we have a Charity Committee and their role is to oversee all aspects of our charitable giving events, develop our volunteer programme and support our Charity Partners. Membership of the committee is a voluntary role and should not interfere or cause any conflict to the core role of the employee.

The committee comprises of a cross-section of employees from across the UK business and is represented by each of the business areas and field teams.

The Charity Committee will develop a calendar of fundraising activities for the year by;

  • Creating and supporting fundraising events
  • Providing opportunities for employees to be involved in events
  • Raising awareness of our charity partners events and supporting them in their work
  • Obtaining matched funding, where possible and within budget, from Lundbeck UK

The Charity Committee is also responsible for developing and supporting the volunteer programme with our Charity Partner and they advise and support employees who wish to undertake volunteer work for a local charity within their community.

All funds raised through the committee are donated to charity and Lundbeck UK employees do not benefit financially in any way from the activities of its charitable giving.

Charity partnerships

Lundbeck UK is committed to ‘giving’ back to our local communities, through charitable giving, both financially and by the giving of our time, as individuals and as a company.

As part of this we choose to support one Charity Partner each year to focus our activities.

Lundbeck UK will only support charitable giving if it falls outside of the scope of Lundbeck’s business areas and there is no conflict of interest. Our charity partner will not be a Health Care Organisation (HCO), Patient Organisation (PO), Religious Organisation (RO) or Political Organisation.

Our 2024 charity partner

The charity chosen by Lundbeck UK employees to support in 2024 is Shelter. Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home and fight the impact the housing emergency has on people and society.

Research undertaken by Shelter, Denied the Right to a Safe Home, has shown that in the UK 17.5 million people are trapped by the housing emergency, with over 109,000 households living in temporary accommodation and 1 in 5 renters say their home is damaging their mental or physical health.

Shelter support those affected by bad housing and homelessness:

Locally:
Their advice and support services offer one-to-one, personalised help with housing issues and homelessness.

Online:
On their website, individuals can find expert information about everything from reclaiming their deposit to applying as homeless, or speak to an adviser over webchat.

Over the phone:
Their free emergency helpline offers urgent advice to those who are homeless, have nowhere to stay tonight or are at risk of harm or abuse in their home.

As well as legal:
Their solicitors provide free legal advice and attend court to help people who’ve lost their homes or are facing eviction.

Our previous charity partners

In 2022 we chose to support Air Ambulances UK – a national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s air ambulance charities by providing vital national funding to the charities, increase the awareness of their lifesaving work, advocate on key issues and policies affecting the delivery of their services, help to enable advancements in patient care, provide a collective national voice and enable the exchange of information and knowledge across the air ambulance sector.

Air ambulance crews across the UK bring the Emergency Department to patients who have suffered life threatening or life changing trauma or medical emergency; providing advanced critical care to save lives.

Prior to that, from 2020-22, Lundbeck supported the Joining Forces Project, supporting the Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland project which was a joint initiative between Age UK and SSAFA – the Armed Forces charity. Veterans supported by Joining Forces have undergone many challenges within their military and personal lives ranging from loneliness, isolation, bereavement, mental health challenges to poor health, sometimes without family and support.

We continued this partnership throughout 2021 due to the increase seen in isolation and loneliness amongst elderly veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic and provided financial support through fundraising events and volunteer support for the telephone befriending service.
