I work in a company that is helping people around the world and this is important to me
Meet Mansour, our expert in Cyber Security. Mansour is a member of the team that’s protecting Lundbeck’s network and computer systems from cyberattacks and unauthorized access.
What is your role in Lundbeck?
I joined Lundbeck as an IT Specialist at IT Service Desk, where I met so many great people. Currently, I work as a Cybersecurity Analyst. My role is part of Lundbeck’s Global Cyber Security team. Together, we are responsible for Cyber Risk Management, Security Architecture, Security Governance, Detection & Response and Awareness for Lundbeck worldwide.
How does your typical day look like?
In a few words, I’d describe my role as – protecting Lundbeck’s network and computer systems from cyberattacks and unauthorized access. This includes preventing attacks before they happen and responding to them when they do, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities by performing diagnostic tests and monitoring traffic.
I investigate security alerts to determine the level of risk and how to mitigate it. It’s best to find a vulnerability in our security system before a hacker does, so we are searching for weak spots before they can be exploited and establish procedures to update software and regularly test it to validate security.
Cybersecurity is our first and most robust protocol for securing the valuable data Lundbeck holds and locking in future success. It’s important for Lundbeck as a pharmaceutical company, which has its own R&D centers, dealing with data of the highest sensitivity including patients' personal information or their health condition.
There is no routine here: protecting internet-connected systems from threats such as data breaches, malware and ransomware is a daily challenge for me.
Sometimes it's stressful, but I treat it as an opportunity to learn something new. I work in a company that is helping people around the world and this is important to me. I like to cooperate with people, learn from them, and help them. They are a great inspiration to me.
What knowledge and skills a person needs to do what you do?
I have an IT background, this is required for my position because entry-level role or not, a Cybersecurity Analyst position requires qualified candidates with the right mindset and a significant amount of technical knowledge. In the cybersecurity field, you maintain at least some responsibility for protecting systems even in an entry-level position, so having a firm foundation of skills is essential. Those who take on a Cybersecurity Analyst’s role don’t just need technical skills; they also require “soft” skills such as analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and team collaboration.
